Cora’s clinical team joined South Tyneside Council and other key organisations in hosting a welcoming community health and wellbeing event at Haven Point in South Shields. We were thrilled to see so many local residents join us. In fact, our educational talks were so popular with attendees, they exceeded the room capacity!
Across two floors, we ran exercise taster classes, empowered attendees to build an active lifestyle in our expert talks and invited them to join a wellbeing fair. The latter featured other local and relevant healthcare support services.
As a result, it was a packed day of activities, and our clinicians shared their expert knowledge with community members . From understanding your pain, busting osteoarthritis myths, to showing how small lifestyle changes can make a big improvement to your health.
Fantastic feedback from attendees and partners
Throughout the day, we received fantastic feedback from attendees. Some said they’d gained useful tips on managing their health. Others reported having made healthy lifestyle changes and even feeling fit enough to return to work.
Hal Brace, North East Operations Manager, reflects on the event. He says: “We tried to do something different as a team. This reflects our commitment to helping patients make lifelong changes and help clinicians integrate with other services in a system-wide approach to care.
“There was such a buzz from colleagues, services, and members of the public. It felt like a really positive step forward in doing things differently. We will be doing more, and this event should act as a catalyst for future partnership working.
Moreover, we also received feedback from Everest Mthombeni, Programme Lead at the North East & North Cumbria Integrated Care Board. He says: “We are absolutely delighted by the overwhelming interest in the Connected Health & Leisure Event at Haven Point. This event is a perfect example of supporting the NHS’s strategic shift from hospital-based care to empowering people to manage their health within their own communities.”
Finally, thank you to all the partners who made this event a success. They include: South Tyneside Council, the Department for Work and Pensions, Versus Arthritis, Flippin’ Pain, Pickleball South Shields, Rise, NHS South Tyneside and Sunderland, and A Better U.
