Daniel Saull collected not one, but two awards at our Colleague Excellence Awards in 2025.
Daniel was the only colleague to win multiple awards across the organisation, including
a Leader of the Year Award and a Outstanding Contribution Award.
How does it feel to be recognised for your hard work?
It feels genuinely rewarding. You don’t do the work for recognition, but when it comes, it’s a real boost and a reminder that you’re doing a great job.
Were you surprised when you heard your name called, not once, but twice?
Yes! Once is flattering enough but twice was completely unexpected. When the introduction for Leader of the Year was being read out, I thought, wow, that person deserves it, they’ve done a great job. I had no idea it was me, especially as I’d already won an award!
Can you tell us a little bit about the projects/initiatives that led to these awards?
It’s been a mix of things. Mobilising the North East London MRI and Ultrasound service has probably been my biggest project to date. I don’t think we anticipated just how busy and large the service would become. Supporting my NEL team through their move to the UK and helping them get settled, improving communication across the London services, driving change, streamlining processes, and always pushing for improvements that benefit both my team and our patients. It’s all been about making things better and keeping patient care at the heart of what we do.
Can you tell us a little about your leadership style that contributed to winning the Leader of the Year award?
I’m a big believer in giving people the space to grow while being there when they need support. Listening and being present is the foundation of my leadership style. I care about my team and I wouldn’t ask them to do something I wouldn’t do myself or if I didn’t believe it would lead to improvements. Support goes a long way and I always want my team to be
happy and performing at their best.
How do you stay motivated and maintain such high standards in your work?
I like to think I work well under pressure. I thrive on a challenge, might sound crazy but I like when something goes wrong it keeps me on my toes. I care about the people I work with and that keeps me focused. I also try to set the bar high for myself, sometimes maybe a little too high! If I wouldn’t be happy with something, I don’t expect others to be. I’m always planning ahead and thinking about what’s coming up next across the services.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or acknowledge for their support?
My team – our sonographers, radiographers, cardio physiologists, HCAs, and of course, my amazing senior operations supports and leads. Leadership genuinely feels easy when you’re surrounded by passionate, hardworking people who share the same vision. I’m really proud to lead such an incredible team.
