If you have a telephone appointment with us, here is what to expect.
Before your telephone appointment
Our telephone appointments are designed to:
- Gather information and understand what the problem is.
- Provide early advice. This could include information about a diagnosis and prognosis.
- Agree a plan for the next steps of care, such as home exercise, face to face appointments or referral to another service.
The appointment will be with one of our specialist MSK (musculoskeletal) clinicians. These are the same clinicians that provide in-person care. They have received additional training to conduct assessments and provide advice over the phone.
To prepare for your telephone appointment, please:
- Identify the key questions you would like to ask.
- Have an information to hand about any medical conditions you have and medications you take.
During your telephone appointment
We’ll ask you questions about:
- Your pain / condition. This will include how long you’ve had it and any treatments you may have already tried.
- Your lifestyle and usual exercise/physical activity routines.
- Your goals – what’s important to you, and anything your condition is stopping you from doing that you’d like to get back to.
- Any medical conditions you have, and medications that you take.
Changing or cancelling an appointment
If you can no longer attend an appointment, then letting us know early often means it can be used by someone else who is waiting. If you don’t already have the contact details for the service your appointment is with, you can find them on your local service page.
