Ultrasound Guided Injection (USGI)

An ultrasound-guided injection is a precise, minimally invasive medical procedure where a highly trained clinician or consultant uses real-time ultrasound imaging to guide a needle and deliver medication directly to a specific target area within the body. This technique is considered the gold standard for musculoskeletal injections due to its high accuracy and reduced risk of complications compared to “blind” injections.

FAQs

Click on each of the questions below to expand the answers.

If you are insured, we recommend you enquire with your provider if they cover Ultrasound Guided Injections at Cora Health. Remember to also enquire if the consultant performing your injection is covered by your insurer. All details will be provided by a member of our private admin team.

If you are self funding, we accept payment via bank transfer, payment over the phone or payment upon arrival of your USGI.

USGI preparation involves refraining from certain medications prior and immediately after the injection, amongst other minor details. These will be discussed with you further when booking your appointment.

Being nervous for any medical scan or procedure is completely normal. What an ultrasound guided injection can assure you is a minimally invasive experience that is performed by a highly qualified Clinician or Consultant, who will be with you every step of the way.

You will benefit with pinpoint accuracy through ultrasound guidance to ensure the medication is delivered precisely where needed, maximizing its effectiveness. Typically, single areas such as the shoulder or foot region, can take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete. If you feel uncomfortable at any point, please inform the clinician.

When your USGI is complete, you will be required to wait a short period, purely for observation. You are then free to leave the clinic. A report will be done by the consultant and this is forwarded to your referrer within 48 hours of your USGI.
