- Review your medical history, medications, and allergies
- Explain the colonoscopy procedure and what to expect
- Provide guidance on bowel preparation, including how and when to take it
- Advise on fasting or any medications to pause before the procedure

You will be told clearly which preparation applies to you and what you need to do.
Following your bowel preparation instructions
Once you have your bowel preparation medicine, please:
- Check the name on the box or medication
- Read the appropriate guidance on this website carefully
- Follow the timing, diet, and medicine instructions exactly
If the instructions are not followed correctly, your bowel may not be clean enough for the procedure. This could mean your procedure needs to be delayed, repeated, or cancelled.
