Rheumatology covers the investigation, diagnosis and medical management of a range of disorders that primarily affect joints, bones, muscles and tissues.
Our community-based rheumatology service provides assessment and management for conditions like osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and hypermobility. Delivered by an expert multi-professional team, a number of these complex conditions can be assessed and managed safely in the community setting, saving unnecessary hospital visits.
We work closely with other healthcare teams, such as GP practices, hospital rheumatology and pain management services to ensure care is joined up and efficient.
In some of our services we also deliver disease monitoring, including any regular blood tests that may be required as part of ongoing care. We support people with any further rehabilitation needs that may be identified in assessment, as part of the overall care within our integrated services.
Our teams provide:
- Diagnosis and management of rheumatic diseases, including where necessary arranging further tests, such as x-rays or scans.
- Joint injections and other procedures.
- Education on disease management and lifestyle adjustments.
- Advice and support regarding associated symptoms that people may experience, such as persistent pain or concerns regarding their bone health
- Personalised and holistic care to consider individual specific goals and clinical needs
